Dr. Jimi Benson
About Me
Dr. Benson was born and raised in Monrovia, Liberia, and moved to the United States as a young teenager fleeing civil conflict in the West African nation. He was awarded a scholarship to study biology at Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. After graduating Magna Cum Laude, he went into biomedical and pharmaceutical research at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington D.C. Dr. Benson’s increasing passion for medicine was cultivated during his research years. He applied and was accepted into Howard University College of Medicine in 2003. After graduating in 2007, he went on to complete his Internal Medicine residency at Howard University Hospital. His experiences at Howard University solidified his desire and passion to provide excellent health care to the underserved population. He moved to San Diego and joined a primary care practice as an associate for three years. He chose to become independent and started his medical corporation in 2014. He has developed many rewarding relationships and is affiliated with several hospitals in the local San Diego area. They include Alvarado Hospital, Alvarado Parkway Institute, Sharp Grossmont and Sharp Chula Vista hospital, Scripps Mercy Chula Hospital, and Paradise Valley Hospital. He also spends his time seeing patients at multiple skilled nursing facilities in San Diego and East County. He is currently president of the National Medical Association San Diego chapter and is an active board member of Golden Physicians Medical Group. He believes that Broadway Medical Clinic will serve as an excellent opportunity to provide adequate healthcare to the local community. Its increased access to comprehensive health care, especially to the minority population, is paramount to the mission of this facility. Outside of the practice of medicine, he enjoys tennis; African, Reggae, Blues music; great food, and family beach days with his wife and two boys.
